Star Party OYL - 404
We tried the newest strain of yeast from Omega Yeast Labs. Star Party OYL-404. Here’s what we thought.
Our recipe for a 10.5 gallon batch:
Hops 4.0 oz each of Citra, Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook.
Hop Schedule:
Mash temperature at 150F and fermented at 67F for 2 weeks.
Initially when racking to kegs, I didn’t think I was going to like this beer. However, after the initial sips it really grew on me, and was very nice once fully carbonated. One taster commented:
This is different from any pale ale that any of us had tried before. It is very much as advertised. The aroma is very reminiscent of fresh pink grapefruit zest. We brought two growlers to a 4th of July gathering to get feedback. People noted the stone fruit and pine elements, which we feel is being more derived from the hops. People kept coming back to this beer, so they must have like it as none was left to bring home. Tasters who claimed that they were not beer drinkers even enjoyed this one. Many stated that they really liked the low bitterness and that the smoothness was refreshing. Others noted the combination of fruit flavors was something different and enjoyable
If you want to try something different, Star Party is what you’re looking for to change up your IPA or Pale Ale creations.
